Dear Smart Services CRC Participants,

The CRC is holding its inaugural Annual Participants Conference at The University of Sydney on the 2 & 3 December 2009

We have designed a highly interactive 2 days that combine opportunities to identify exciting new research outcomes, smart future employees, IP to exploit, improved understanding of your innovation models and new ideas of the future of services, the National Broadband Network and a Green Economy.

Day 1: December 2, 2009

Following a welcome address from our Chairman, CEO and Head - Research, we are pleased to announce our keynote speaker Dr Peter Hayward. Peter is the program director of Swinburne's Strategic Foresight program in their Faculty of Business & Enterprise.  The program has grown extensively over the last 5 years including an extensive alumni network many of whom run foresight consulting firms, have worked in your market sectors, and have business modelling skills and commercial acumen. Peter is a member of the Association of Professional Futurists who are the most commercially oriented network of qualified foresight practitioners http://www.profuturists.org/.

Peter’s keynote will be followed by a Panel of speakers combining industry, student, and academic insights

This first day of the conference also represents a unique opportunity for you to meet with our very bright PhD students and review their topics of research. During the Poster sessions I encourage you to approach the students of interest and engage them in exploring their research themes and how it might benefit your organisation and create impact in the market.

The students will have been engaged in training the day before on presentations skills, PR and commercialisation and we will be running a series of student awards in which we seek your judgement and vote for the following categories based on your interactions on the day:

  1. Most popular thesis
  2. Poster Presentation
  3. Best Elevator Pitch

In addition we will ask you to vote on the most well written thesis summary. Seven awards in total will be presented to students.

Day 2: December 3, 2009

Over the course of the day, panel sessions will provide opportunity for all to engage in debate and discussion around three core themes:

  1. “Fibre to the home, what does it mean to you?”
  2.  “Behind the Scenes – best practice in adoption of innovation” – insights on operational and cultural challenges faced by our industry and government partners
  3.  “Green Economy – Fad or Future”

Across both days during the breaks, poster sessions and open forum session we have allocated 7.5 hours for networking and to enable project teams to connect and discuss ideas across all the projects. This is also an opportunity to arrange to see any demonstrations and discuss the H2 projects.
